“Okay – I’m at the wedding and I fit in the dress and am getting complimented left and right!”
I recently caught up with one of my star clients, Carrie E, and I asked her for her feedback on my program – Take Your Body Back Now!
Below are the highlights from our conversation:
Why did you decide to join Take Your Body Back Now?
Well, I decided to join because although I had been somewhat successful fairly recently in losing some weight on a calorie restrictive diet, I had hit a plateau and I didn’t know what else to do. There was so much information out there. Some said Paleo, some said low carb, and nothing really stuck. Nothing seemed doable or tasty or something that I could sustain, and really needed some help getting over the hump, learning a better way to eat, and the accountability and realizing it was so much more than just calories.
One of the motivating factors was an upcoming wedding, correct?
That’s absolutely true, yes. I have a big wedding in June. I’m not in the wedding, but it’s very, very dear friends of mine and I am so excited to be part of their special day, and I knew I would be going back to Connecticut where I’m originally from and seeing people I hadn’t seen in six months to a year, maybe even longer, and really wanted to feel better, look good, show them that moving to Texas was a good thing for me both professionally, physically, mentally, emotionally, all those things, and have a good time and look great in pictures.
How would you say you’d describe your general feelings about attending the wedding before going through Take Your Body Back Now?
Before I was very nervous about pictures and how I was going to look in them and really what I was going to wear. Most of my dresses that were fine certainly showed bulges where I didn’t want them to be and were made for a bigger size body…Now I have much more confidence. I’m looking forward to photos. I’m looking forward to dancing.
Why do you think you had so much more success with this program versus others you’d done on your own?
I think one, by having you, Bennett, as someone as a resource for accountability, things like, “Okay, I’m craving this,” or “I’m going out to dinner at this restaurant. What can I have and still maintain the diet?” Just the support in terms of, “You can do this. You’re looking great.” The weekly accountability, asking how my sleep was…It’s sort of a bigger package and it stuck with me. It was just more about lifestyle change as opposed to a diet.
Before you joined, was one of your concerns that you wouldn’t be able to have a life and still lose weight at the same time?
Yeah, actually that was a big concern for me before starting the program. When I lost weight, a little bit of weight previously on a counting calories diet, I pretty much became a hermit. I decided because I couldn’t guarantee what was in restaurant food or have an idea of serving sizes and portion sizes and how much butter they cooked with and things like that, that it was a lot easier just to not go out, not go out to lunch, not go out to dinner, not meet people at bars. I became a hermit, and so I was very concerned about eight weeks of a program and becoming that hermit again when I really wanted to be able to continue my relationships.
Now that you’ve gone through Take Your Body Back Now, do you feel like you have to stay in when other people are going out?
For sure no, not in the least. Now granted it’s not like I go, and when we go out to dinner I say, “Let’s go to the Pasta Palace,” because that’s probably not something I’m going to find healthy meals, but even going to Chinese food, I can find things that will work in my diet and be tasty and I’m not feeling I’m missing out.
Especially now that I’ve went through the eight-week program, I’m in The Finish Line and trying to balance working out, when I can have carbs, when I can have a drink, and realizing that my weight is going to fluctuate daily. Stop obsessing over the scale. The whole package is more than just a number. How can you make it a whole lifestyle, and it’s really you can lose weight and still have a social life at the same time.
Did you ever feel like this was some calorie restrictive like you were hungry all the time type diet?
No, I had plenty of food and sometimes I would come home, I’m like, “I don’t want to eat. I’m full,” and yet I still needed to have a meal, there were no hunger pangs on this diet.
What surprised you the most about the program?
That I actually enjoy and crave the green smoothie in the morning!
Was the program as challenging as you expected it to be?
Not at all. I never really craved or missed anything. I found that there were plenty of lean proteins and vegetables that I could eat, plenty of healthy fats. Actually even I learned some new food combinations and tricks and meals that I would have never tried if not for this diet, so it was certainly not as restrictive as I had originally feared.
When we first started working together, it seemed like maybe you didn’t feel like you were the one in control of your diet. Would you say that was true?
I think that’s probably fair. I’ve been listening to so many voices in terms of trainers and doctors and internet and mothers and whatnot and just had it kind of all muddled in my head.
How do you feel about that now – do you feel more in control of your diet than you did before?
I do, and the other thing is I know that, nobody’s perfect and there are going to be days where they homemade chocolate chip cookies in the office kitchen are going to be calling me and I’m going to have one, but I certainly don’t spiral into the, “Okay, now that I’ve had a chocolate chip cookie, let’s go get Chick-fil-A for dinner and drink a bottle of wine.” It’s, “Okay, I had a chocolate chip cookie. That’s fine. It all happens. I drank my green smoothie the next morning, and I’m just right back on track.” It’s a lot easier to fall back into good habits as opposed to falling into bad habits by one little misstep or reward or whatnot.
What would you say to someone who’s considering joining Take Your Body Back Now, perhaps someone who’s on the fence and they don’t know if this is the right program for them?
What I really liked was the individualized coaching and the support I had during the program. It’s eight weeks which is long enough to create good habits, but short enough to not be a huge, huge, huge commitment. I think it’s really a perfect amount of time to realize that it’s the right program for you and understand why your body craves what it craves, why we’ve been eating what we’ve been eating, get to the root of really what food is doing to our bodies and make the right choices, and I think it’s been great to have that support system.
Well you got an amazing result. I appreciate you sharing your experience today, Carrie. Your results speak for themselves, and I look forward to seeing the progress you continue to make. Please keep me in the loop and let me know how that wedding goes.
You’ll see wedding pictures, and I’m going to rock that dress!
