Mark hiked Machu Picchu after losing 41 lbs!

Mark Lost 41 lbs and 9.5 inches off his waist!

I got Mark’s feedback on the program right after he returned from his trip to Machu Picchu, and below are some of the highlights from our conversation. Scroll to the bottom for the full video of our conversation.

Why did you decide to join in the first place?

Well I’ve tried other plans over a good many years that I’ve been trying to stay in shape and uh nothing really worked well, or didn’t have any longevity, it didn’t last, so it was worth trying one more, and I’m glad I did.

When you signed up with me you were looking forward to going on a big hike?

Yes my daughter and I had planned to hike the Inca trail, to Machu Picchu in Peru and it was a 25 mile hike, reaching altitudes of 14,000 feet, and being a bit overweight, quite a bit overweight, I knew that that was going to be more than a challenge.

Now that you’re back from the hike, do you think you could’ve done it before working with me?

They give you an option after the first day to turn around and go back, I would’ve been with that group that turned around and went back, ha. So I’m positive that couldn’t have done it.

Before you joined, did you have any concerns about starting a weight loss program?

The discipline that goes along with being hungry, usually you’re going on some sort of a hunger journey that you’re trying to get through, I think I was more concerned about that than anything.

And did you feel like you had to be hungry in order to lose weight on this program?

No and that was the most surprising thing, both my wife and I did this program together, and neither one of us were, had suffered any hunger pangs if you will, through the program. It was more of a changing some of the eating habits.

Were you surprised that just by changing what you ate, not really how much you ate, it caused both weight loss AND satiated your hunger pangs?

Yes and they weren’t new things that I ate, they were a lot of the same things that were in my diet, so I ate more of some things that were good for me and a lot less of other things that weren’t good for me, and as a result it worked well.

How challenging did it feel to stick to the nutrition guidelines in the beginning vs as the program went on?

To be real honest with you it took probably about 5-7 days, 10 days at most adjustment, but it was very easy, when you start seeing results as fast as I was seeing results, when you’re losing 3-5 lbs a week, it’s pretty easy to be committed and stay committed because you’re really excited about the progress you’re making, and how fast you’re making it.

And just in the first 8 weeks we worked together you lost just over 31 lbs, 6 inches off your waist. Did you think that you would transform that quickly?

Absolutely not. I’ve been on many diets over the years and nothing happened that quickly, and that easily.

We worked together for 20 weeks, you lost a total of 41 lbs, 9.5 inches off your waist. When was the last time you were this lean?

I’ve been married 46 years, and probably the day I got married, haha. It’s been a long time. It’s beyond comprehension how quickly it happens and how effectively it happens.

And you were able to do it without feeling hungry, and without feeling socially ostracized – you were able to go out to restaurants and still stick to the plan right?

Yes and we go out quite a bit, and it was easy to stick to the plan, and of course you coached us through that too, you helped us, we would tell you what restaurants we were thinking of eating at, and you coached us with the menus, which was very very helpful.

And now that you’ve started to run through my program, do you still enjoy the food you’re eating on a daily basis?

Oh yes, nothing’s really changed. I’m not as strict as I was, I’m still enjoying some of the other foods that I was kind of cutting back on, but not to a great extent, I’m really probably 95% still on the same eating plan, and I’m very satisfied with it, and don’t see or have a desire to change at all. I think it’s been about maybe 30 weeks and I haven’t gained a pound.

Once you transition you don’t have many of the cravings that you had before, is that what you’ve experienced?

Exactly.

Aside from being leaner, any other benefits from the program that surprised you?

Well, I’ll tell you the biggest downside. I had to buy all new clothes, haha!

But it was sure fun trying clothes on that I hadn’t tried on in 40+ years. I would recommend it to anybody, it was easy, effective, and the upside you feel so much better. I’m 65 years old, and I’m going to be hiking up and down mountains, elk hunting this fall, and next spring my daughter and I are going to hike Everest base camp in the Himalayas. I can do that stuff today that I couldn’t do just months ago.
